The spotlight is on composers Prokofiev and Shostakovich in this distinctly Russian program, featuring pianist Natasha Paremski playing Prokofiev’s romantic Second Piano Concerto. The entire Colorado Symphony performs his Classical Symphony, a work that juxtaposes Prokofiev’s daring musical language with a sound that’s more typical of Mozart’s time. Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony is also reminiscent of a bygone era in a composition that is short, witty, and classically oriented.
