The Southshore community in southeast Aurora is adding to its long list of amenities with the construction start of a new 9,000 square foot community center. Designed by KGA Studio Architects, an award-winning residential architecture firm, the community center will feature a full slate of recreational and entertainment activities for residents of Southshore. This additional resort-style amenity will also provide a new venue for resident connection and interaction in the rapidly growing community.
Opening Summer of 2021
Scheduled for completion in the Spring of 2021, the new community center will raise-the-bar when it comes to family fun, social events and architectural appeal. The Lakehouse at Southshore — an 11,000 square foot amenity — was built with a nautical theme that emulated some of the famous Southeast vacation destinations such as Key West and Seaside. The new facility features many of the same design elements, with a more up-to-the-minute scale.
Residents will enjoy two pools including a saltwater pool with a zero-entry area and splash pad and a perimeter decked with cabanas, plantation-style trellises, a large activities lawn, snack shack, and a traditional boardwalk with outdoor firepit and unobstructed views of the Aurora Reservoir. The second recreation facility will also have a competition pool for swim meets with other communities and clubs, plus a second play pool and splash pad providing yet another opportunity for young children and teens to compete and have fun.
Game Room, Teen Center & Tap Room!
The new community building itself is a family and fitness-oriented facility featuring an open, inviting atmosphere. The program for the project was developed by the architectural team, the developer, the operator (Denver YMCA) and a select group of HOA members. Features of the community center itself include a tap room (which will host different, local breweries on a rotating basis), community room, nursery, fitness activity room, yoga studio with an outdoor deck overlooking the pools, plus an open gym.
Neighborhood kids can also enjoy a game room and a teen center. The building sits on a 10-acre site within walking distance of several other community amenities: a sledding hill, dog park, play areas and shelters overlooking the Aurora Reservoir — ideal settings for a variety of seasonal activities.
Parties, Events, and Activities
More fun activities and social events — such as Super Bowl parties, chili cookoffs, open-mic nights, holiday parties, movie nights, food trucks and more — will be planned and organized by an activities’ director.
Miles of community trails connect Southshore’s neighborhoods to beautiful parks and tranquil ponds, as well as signature amenities such as the Lakehouse, the Boat House, Senac Pond and Anchor Point Park. Private trails (one existing, two planned) connect Southshore to the Aurora Reservoir and eight miles of public lakeside recreational paths.
