Creative Things to Do This Weekend!

May 28, 2020

Potentially the most creative event to come from the pandemic restrictions, The Farm-to-Spaceship dinner experience lets you imagine a culinary journey to Mars! This take-out dinner experience offers a gourmet Martian dinner to pick up and take home, an exclusive video giving you the necessary visuals, and an after-dinner DJ session! You even get an alien flower-power ring!

The number of people reading classics right now has increased tremendously. If you are one of them (or are thinking about it!) why not learn more about the writer many consider to be the greatest in the English language? You can join Active Minds’ Zoom seminar for an exploration that seeks to connect Shakespeare’s life story to his plays and poems.

What is the origin of human sociality? Why are we social animals? This livestream lecture from Denver Museum of Nature & Science couldn’t be more timely. Paula Cushing, the curator of Arachnology and evolutionary biologist, and Charles Musiba, University of Colorado biological anthropologist, discuss how essential social interaction is for humans and how social distancing challenges us to our core.

One of the most iconic venues anywhere, Boston’s Fenway Park will be the site of a live concert without any fans. Favorite Boston band the Dropkick Murphys, who did one of the first livestream pandemic concerts back on St. Patricks day, will be performing from the baseball diamond at appropriate social distancing, with each member of the band set up on a different base. Bruce Springsteen will make a remote appearance, streaming live on the park’s jumbotron.

The entire event is for charity—the show will raise funds for the Boston Resiliency Fund, Feeding America, and Habitat for Humanity, Greater Boston. It’s also a glimpse of what might be in store for this summer: events held in empty parks and stadiums.
