It’s a food fight fiesta – only not the kind you’re thinking! The Denver Burger Battle, the Beer, Bites and Baseball event and the Food Truck Rodeo are three food-centric activities happening this weekend in and around Southshore, but there’s much, much more! MAKE MATH FUN!
The Make Math Fun camp will help your children change the way they think about math and help them look forward to the next school year. The all-day class will give kids confidence in math with extra practice learning basic facts. Teachers will help lay the foundation of math and play games like Jenga and cup stacking to help kids learn the basics. Plus, kids attending this summer math camp will receive a take-home a math toolbox to play and practice at home!

DENVER BURGER BATTLE
This award-winning charity competition pits makers of the city’s 16 best burgers against each another so that one can be crowned the best burger in town! The judges are some of the city’s premiere chefs, and you! General admission to the event is $69.99 and VIP tickets are $124.99, both with unlimited tastes of beer and wine, and of course, tasty burgers. Hurry, the event is already 90 percent sold!

Sounds of Southlands will feature the 17th Avenue All-Stars, a popular a cappella group celebrating 27 years as one of Denver’s top musical acts. The All-Stars have performed across the nation, sharing the stage with B.B. King, The Temptations, Dave Mason, Mel Torme and Robert Cray. The All-Stars were named the official anthem singers of the Denver Broncos and their wide range of a cappella performances include shows for American presidents.  Experience the a cappella magic that is the 17th Avenue All-Stars at the Sounds of Southlands!

SUMMER IN THE CITY

FoodKIDS’ NIGHT OUT: TANGLED
Bring the kids by the Lakehouse for dinner and a movie while you enjoy a night to yourselves! This week we’re showing Tangled, the 2010 animated Disney film about the magically long-haired Rapunzel who has spent her entire life locked in a tower. But now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is. Kids will have games and crafts with food provided, and will get to watch a movie in our movie theater.  Parents can relax with the night off for $15 for the first child, and $10 for additional children.

BOOK AND PAPER FAIR
The largest antiquarian book and paper fair in the Rocky Mountain region is this weekend, featuring booksellers from across the U.S. and England offering an outstanding selection of fine, rare, collectible books, maps, paper and ephemera for sale. This fair provides an opportunity for people to see, feel, and purchase special books and historical items that are seldom seen outside of libraries and museums.  Collectors will find a broad selection of affordable items of interest, and three special events featuring fascinating presenter stories.

RUN FOR THE RING!
The annual Run for the Ring 5K and Kids’ Fun Run will bring together running enthusiasts and patients and supporters of the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC). The Run for the Ring the run for the brass ring – the cure for diabetes. TANNER GUN SHOW
The Tanner Gun Show has been drawing collectors and aficionados since the mid-1960s. At the Denver show you’ll find 700 tables with all types of guns, knives, ammunition, survival gear and food, plus related hunting and fishing accessories including, holsters, Western wear, gun safes, books, war relics and other collectibles. The show attracts vendors from throughout the Western half of the U.S., so show-goers are will see the largest selection of old and new firearms in the state. Concealed carry permit classes are also available at the show through Tac*One Consulting. Classes are held once on Saturday and once on Sunday during the show, and food vendors will be on hand for snacks and drinks.

AIR AND SPACE CAMP
For students aged 8 to 12 who are interested in space travel and aviation, this summer camp will immerse them in exciting, daily activities inside a WWII-era Air Force hangar filled with different aircraft and space vehicles. Through the hands-on design of water rockets, a Martian Settlement, and gliders, campers will learn to troubleshoot some of the challenges tackled by aerospace engineers. Campers and their parents can take advantage of before and after care if desired, from 7:00-9:00 a.m. and from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

THE ATOMIC BOMB
August 6 and August 9 mark 70 years since the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ushering in the nuclear age. Join Active Minds for a look at the origins and history of atomic weapons and a discussion about the achievements of the Manhattan Project and the subsequent nuclear arms race during the Cold War. The discussion will wrap up with a look at current nuclear proliferation.
