APOLLOPALOOZA FILM SCREENING
This special film screening is about one of the space pioneers who inspired the imagination of generations of influential space visionaries to come. Chesley Bonestell was an artist at the turn of the 20th century who was one of the first people to see and paint what few people could see at the time: Saturn and its beautiful rings.
From there, he became a designer in Hollywood, lending his talents to science fiction classics like Destination Moon and War Of The Worlds, and then on television, with the series Men Into Space. His Bonestellian visions of rocket ships, planets, moons and stars turned up in print, film and broadcast in the 1950s and ‘60s. His artistry set the standards of what the journey through space would look like. You can see his influence on filmmakers like Stanley Kubrick in 2001: A Space Odyssey and many others.
