It’s Taco Tuesday!

April 30, 2019

Taco fans, gather ‘round, it’s Taco Tuesday and we have the best, tastiest, most authentic taco recipes for you to try, plus some taco hacks that will up your game with friends and family!

Whether you like traditional ground beef or ground turkey, this recipe from blogger Mel at Mel’s Kitchen Café relies on from-scratch ingredients. The taco meat is seasoned with chili powder, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper and one jalapeno – seeded and finely chopped. And while she uses prepared taco shells (see hack below to make your own), she lays out plenty of toppings for a simple weeknight meal.

Blogger Mary who writes, cooks and photographs for Barefeet in the Kitchen, claims the best taco meat needs a little corn and black beans along with diced onions and roasted green chiles, plus, a little spinach! Surprise!

Don’t Forget the Sauce

Natasha’s Kitchen claims to make the best fish taco sauce – to drizzle on fish tacos made with baked tilapia (375º for 20 minutes), cojita cheese, cabbage, avocado and cilantro. Cojita is a Mexican cheese that crumbles when you grate it – similar to feta, but milder and not as salty. The sauce contains sour cream, mayo, lime juice, Sriracha and garlic. Feel your mouth starting to water, yet?

Billy Parisi at The Inspired Home creates an authentic street taco he calls the Chicken Tinga – a combination of tomatillos, tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, garlic and chipotles. He roasts and mashes all that together, braises the chicken and tops his homemade tortillas off with avocado and cilantro. What else?

Taco Hacks to Up Your Game

According to Ananda at Real Simple, the one mistake most people make when preparing tacos is how to warm the tortillas. You can only do this with a gas stove, but she says set the burner to medium-low and place the tortillas DIRECTLY on the flame for 30 seconds.

BuzzFeed has four quick taco hacks to up your game including one that keeps all the toppings in the taco using a glue gun (the Fondoodler) for cheese! We didn’t believe it either but there’s a video. Hard to argue with movie-proof!

And at Forkly, you’ll learn how to DIY taco shells, bowls and cups. Most involve using a little spray cooking oil for turning corn and flour tortillas into little crispy pockets for your tacos. You’ll DIY bowls for mini taco salads, too!
