Last Minute Thanksgiving Décor
November 14, 2017
If you’ve put off thinking about Thanksgiving décor and are wondering how to get it done at the last minute, don’t fret. Even though the holiday is next week, it may pay to procrastinate. Retailers like JoAnn Fabrics, Michael’s, Target and Hobby Lobby all have fall and Thanksgiving décor on sale right now – from 30 to 50 percent off – so you can shop till you drop!
Not sure what kind of Thanksgiving decorations you’re shopping for? This Pinterest page is guaranteed to please, with festive porches and entryways, food crafts that kids will love, and simple dinner table centerpieces.
Centerpieces to Celebrate
A Pumpkin and a Princess took the Michael’s Makers pumpkin challenge and created a floral arrangement that can enhance any Thanksgiving dinner table. With a faux white pumpkin and a few fall stems, off-white mums and hydrangeas, leafy foliage and pine cones, the result is a stunning centerpiece.
There’s something about white pumpkins and metallic script or embellishments that seems perfect for Thanksgiving décor. ThePerfectPalette shows off her creation decorated with bronze calligraphy; EllaClaireInspired collected tiny white gourds and added message “leaves” (free printables) to tie on, and HomeyOhMy shows you how to apply gold Washi confetti strips to a pair of medium-sized white pumpkins for a super- simple, but striking, centerpiece to highlight your Thanksgiving décor.
If your tastes lean to the countrified and rustic, Country Living has an idea using vintage cheese graters, acorns, and LED candles! The graters are rusted tin that turns coppery when LED candles are placed inside, with more candles added outside nestled in acorns. Party City has 25 acorns for $5, with additional photo-inspiration ideas about how to use them!
Copper or gold-gilded pomegranates (faux pomegranates and metal leaf from Amazon), displayed on a tray or cake stand form an elegant decorative Thanksgiving centerpiece for your dinner table. Just follow the instructions on the leaf packaging and gild to your heart’s content.
House Beautiful and Elle Décor have dozens more ideas for centerpieces that will amp up your Thanksgiving décor, with items you might never have considered, including faux antlers and ornamental cabbage, to name two! Some take only an afternoon to pull together – and less if you have little helping hands!
Speaking of little helping hands, we couldn’t resist including this turkey handprint tablecloth, from The Crafting Chicks. It’s pretty adorable and a keepsake, too!
If you’d rather ditch the DIY and go straight to online ordering, check out Williams Sonoma’s Fall Cornucopia, the Grand Diplome Centerpiece from Frontgate with red, burgundy, orange and green delicacies, or distressed mason jar marvels from My Heart By Hand on Etsy.
Around the House
There’s more to Thanksgiving décor than setting a pretty table (although let’s face it, it’s hard to separate the meal from the holiday!) but we did find other decorating ideas that managed to pull themselves away from the food!
Pumpkins are still the go-to fall décor staple, but this idea from Better Homes and Gardens, showcases a couple of dozen miniatures in a glass bell jar or cloche. You could paint them assorted shades of green and off-white like Beth at Home Stories from A to Z did. She scattered them along a mantel with flanking vases of fall grasses, for a conversation starter in her living room.
On the kitschy side, here are Lia Griffith’s pine cone owls for light-hearted, crafty Thanksgiving décor that will double nicely as tree ornaments in about two weeks!
And we’re not sure why, but we just know it’s true: pom-poms are popular. And these pom-pom turkeys with orange pipe cleaner legs and feet are fun and funny for kids to make, thanks to GrowingupGabel.
Don’t Forget the Door!
Thanksgiving décor can extend to the front door with a cheerful seasonal wreath like one of these beauties from White Flower Farm. And don’t forget lots of these fancy rounds look just as fabulous and festive on an interior wall in your house!
Now it’s your turn. Are you ready? On your marks, get set, decorate!
