Let’s Celebrate Dad!
June 13, 2017
Dad rocks, doesn’t he? Whether you celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday or all weekend long, we know dad will want fabulous food, great gifts and a few activities lined up to make it all the more memorable!
Things to Do
Take Dad to the Greek Festival on Saturday and/or Sunday where the spanakopita, keftedes, souvlakia and gyros will be plentiful and mouthwatering – and nobody has to cook! Baklava, honey balls, creamy custards and butter cookies will finish him off with sweet bliss, as he watches entertainment from Greek dancers, an orthodox choir, or traditional Greek musicians. The festival is from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at 4610 E. Alameda Ave. in Denver.
If your dad likes watching the Kentucky Derby, take him to Arapahoe Park either Saturday or Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for live horse racing. On Sunday, Father’s Day, all dads get in free and receive a free Arapahoe Park gift while supplies last. And back by popular demand, the Father’s Day food buffet — buy one buffet meal and dad eats for free! It’s his day at the park, located at 10750 E. Iliff Avenue in Aurora.
The highlight of the Juneteenth Music Festival in downtown Denver at 26th and Welton is a concert featuring Slick Rick, an American/British rapper who has collaborated with Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Aaliyah and Outkast. Earlier in the day – June 16, at 9:00 a.m., a parade will kick off the celebration starting at the Manual High School parking lot. There are activities scheduled throughout the day, capped by the concert at 6:30 p.m. in the historic Five Points neighborhood.
The Colorado Rockies are on fire this season and they’re playing San Francisco all weekend at Coors Field, 2001 Blake St. in Denver. Games start at 6:40 p.m. on Friday, and 1:10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
