This weekend ushers in one of the oldest traditions in Colorado history—the National Western Stock Show! Also finishing up its run in the Mile High City is the Above and Beyond aerospace exhibit at Wings Over the Rockies. New events in town include the opening of the Broadway hit musical, A Bronx Tale, and local live music at the People’s Building, Aurora’s newest community venue! Take your pick and take in some fun!

VIRTUOSO IN CONCERT WITH THE COLORADO SYMPHONY
For a moving, exuberant musical experience, you won’t want to miss the world-renowned violin master, Itzhak Perlman, when he appears in concert with the Colorado Symphony! Perlman is known for his joyful, expressive method of playing his instrument, as well as his deep humanity that reveals a genuine desire to share his gift with others. The concert features Beethoven’s beloved Violin Concerto, as well as works by more contemporary composers. 

The program begins with the enchanting and lively Fanfare Ritmico by Pulitzer prize-winning Brooklyn composer Jennifer Higdon, followed by a work by Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera, considered one of the most important composers in the Americas. Variaciones Concertantes offers a host of roles starring Colorado Symphony musicians!

LAUGHS WITH LOCAL TROY WALKER
Troy Walker is a local comedian who is making it big! You may have caught one of his shows at Comedy Works, where he’s won the New Faces contest twice. Or maybe you saw him in his network TV debut on The Late Late Show, VICE’s Flophouse, or playing the role of Don Lemon on Fusion TV’s Trump vs. Bernie. Walker was also just featured in a PetSmart commercial directed by Christopher Guest and starring Jane Lynch.

Walker has opened for some of the most prominent comedians in the country and serves as a fine ambassador of Denver comedy at national and local comedy festivals including The Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, The Great American Comedy Festival, and Portland’s Bridgetown Comedy Festival. He was also selected as one the Just for Laughs Montreal’s prestigious New Faces.

CHECK OUT THE LATEST OUTDOOR TRENDS

A BRONX TALE COMES TO DENVER
A taste of vintage New York sweeps into the Mile High City with this Broadway blockbuster that’s bursting with energy and the kind of original doo-wop tunes that will have you humming them for weeks! This crowd-pleasing musical takes place in the Bronx in the 1960s, where a young man is caught between the father he loves and the mob boss he’d love to be. The electric dance numbers illuminate a classic story of family loyalty and coming of age.

SEE A CLASSIC PLAY
The story of a love triangle told in reverse, Betrayal is an uncompromising look at the nature of romantic relationships, marriage, and loyalty. This classic drama by Harold Pinter starts in 1977 when Emma and Robert’s marriage is dissolving, and she meets up with her long-time lover Jerry. The play then moves back in time to 1968 when their love affair first began. As the years spin backwards, a complex web of secrets about the trio emerges and makes them all question the nature of intimacy as it relates to them.

A TRIBUTE TO ARTHUR FIEDLER AND THE BOSTON POPS
A real crowd-pleaser, the Colorado Symphony’s energetic tribute to Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops is back by popular demand, with a fresh and fun program led by the animated Christopher Dragon on the podium!

Check out the newest spot in Aurora for live music! The People’s Building, a new arts, culture, and event space located directly across from The Aurora Fox, is adding live music to its programming to foster a healthy community and highlight the diversity of the arts and culture of East Colfax in Aurora. This live concert will showcase local independent musicians, a welcome break from the holiday music from the past few weeks! THE STOCK SHOW COMES TO TOWN!
This is the opening weekend of the premier livestock, rodeo, and horse show that’s been coming to Denver for over 100 years! The National Western Stock Show was established in 1906 and is one of Colorado’s preeminent tourist destinations, held every January for 16 days. 

As an internationally-renowned western heritage event, the National Western Stock Show celebrates western lifestyles and communities, and it’s one of the best venues in the world to marvel at professional rodeo performers. The entire family will enjoy being a part of this western tradition!

Away from it all, but close to everything, the lakeside community of Southshore offers access to plenty of things to do every weekend!
