“…More for Your Money at Southshore!”
March 16, 2021
When Kevin and Genevieve Deits moved into Southshore last October, they were both thinking ahead to the day when their children would be old enough for school. These parents knew what they wanted for their toddler son, Easton, now 2 years old, and baby brother, Beckett (left, who was born on March 9!) — an education from three of the highest-rated schools in the state: Altitude Elementary, Fox Ridge Middle School and Cherokee Trail High School.
Familiarity Breeds Affection!
The Deits family lived nearby in Aurora, and were eager to move into the neighborhood for those specific schools– not just because of their reputation, but also from first-hand knowledge and experience of Southshore’s residents. “I teach Art at Fox Ridge,” says Genevieve, “and I’ve always loved the community, parents, and students– they’re just wonderful.” Genevieve wanted the boys to attend Altitude and Fox Ridge, and Kevin wanted them to go to their neighborhood schools. So the best solution was to move into the neighborhood!
And for Kevin, whose commute increased, it was a no-brainer to spend the extra time in the car, so his boys could go to Southshore schools. “I work for my Dad’s lawncare company, Naturalawn of America” he says. “We have an office in Denver, and while living in Southshore added 10 minutes to my commute, it’s well worth it to have our sons here in their neighborhood schools.
“And,” he added, “to have Southlands so close by!”
Southlands, Rec Centers and Amenities
The shopping center, with its ice rink and retail stores, movie theater, restaurants and quirky shops, is a draw for all the residents here – no matter what the season. And the Lighthouse at Southshore, a second rec center that will open this spring, was another alluring amenity. “We can almost see it from our backyard!” says Kevin.
Genevieve is a yoga enthusiast, and when classes are held at both rec centers (post-pandemic), that’s another attraction. “We really love the different amenities that are available in Southshore – the walking paths, the dog park, and the little pocket parks that are spread throughout the neighborhood,” she says.
Adds Genevieve, “We’ve loved living in Aurora — we’ve been here for 10 years – and we’re excited about the diversity of the neighborhood we’ve moved into!”
The Taylor Morrison Choice
The Deits chose the Vail model from new home builder Taylor Morrison. They got the walkout basement which they plan to finish this fall and are thrilled to have the extra room for their growing family.
“We loved the lofted living room,” says Genevieve. “Our old house had that, and I wasn’t ready to give it up! There’s a playroom off the kitchen, and with two boys, it’s so nice to have a place for all their toys.”
Both commented on the little things they love, like the three-car garage and the bedrooms all together on the second floor with the laundry room nearby, “so you’re not hauling laundry up and down the stairs.”
More Space to Store Things!
Genevieve in particular likes the space to store things. “There’s a massive storage room right off the basement stairs – a nice add-on feature, and we have a giant walk-in food pantry.”
Says Kevin, “We had an inspector checking all throughout the building process before moving in – something our real estate agent insisted doing – but he didn’t find much for a punch list.”
“You get so much more for your money out here by not having a Denver zip code. We have friends who work downtown and the houses in Denver are so expensive. The nice part is having E-470 where we can get to either I-25 or I-70 quickly if we need to go downtown.”
