Aurora’s own Vintage Theatre Company hosts a New Play Comedy Festival this weekend, and you won’t want to miss the hilarity! Also opening this weekend for a short run at the Buell Theatre is the exhilarating musical On Your Feet, based on the life and music of Gloria Estefan!

As part of the Vintage Theatre New Play Comedy Festival, this romantic comedy follows two unlikely lovers through the decades as their paths cross over and over again.

In college Ron is smitten with Wanda, but as their excruciating first date shows, it doesn’t work out. The next time they meet, seven years later, time and circumstances have changed. Wanda sees Ron in a different light, but this time Ron isn’t ready. The play follows them through the years, through sickness and health, wealth and business. Love takes time… and timing.

If you are a Gloria Estefan fan, you won’t want to miss the energetic and inspiring story of her life—complete with the music that made her a world-wide superstar! From their humble beginnings in Cuba, Emilio and Gloria Estefan came to America and broke through all barriers to become a crossover sensation at the very top of the pop music world.

A COMEDY ABOUT BRITISH FOOTBALL
Another entry in the Vintage Theatre New Play Comedy Festival, Cannibal of Ajax is about the antics of a renowned British football player. When Luis Suarez bites another player during a match, British youth players begin emulating their hero and start biting each other during soccer matches. It takes two mothers from very different backgrounds to put a stop to this nasty behavior. They take on not only the British football playing league but go straight to the heart of the British government!

If you need an excuse to wander around Denver’s wonderful 16th Street Mall in Downtown Denver, this is it! The Vintage Theatre New Play Comedy Festival continues with a play about that time we all look forward to—retirement! That is, until it turns out to be not at all as we planned. When Ruth Baker gets carried away at her retirement party and ends up on a four-day bender, it results in an alcoholic blackout, and she is forced to re-trace her steps to find out what happened. Uproarious antics, strange purchases, and devastating revelations are uncovered, while Ruth must face the truth with a massive hangover.

HOPS IN THE HANGAR
Join in the fun at Denver’s most unique beer festival! The Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space museum hosts dozens of the Denver Metro area’s best breweries in a WWII-era hangar, where you can enjoy an evening of friends, food and of course, fantastic local beer.

Tickets include unlimited beer tastings, a meal, access to games, activities, aircraft cockpits, music and lots more. All breweries in attendance are generously donating their beer and time. Like Stepford Wives with a magical twist, this Vintage Theatre New Play Comedy Festival play features a group of five female archetypes in an enchanted castle who do nothing except wait for a man to show up and tell them what to do. When the women grow tired of waiting, the idea of deciding for themselves arises just before a man finally does arrive. The women must decide if they still want to follow the man or live their own lives, though they would have to break out of their archetypal molds to do so.

The Minecraft fans in your family will delight in this convention of all things Minecraft! Some people are wildly talented at getting out of work, and the Vintage Theatre New Play Comedy Festival play, Certifiably Yours, pays tribute to them! When the U.S. government hires a psychiatrist to develop a gated community designed to house society’s creatively unemployed and unemployable, he faces some worthy adversaries: a hooker who suffers from restless leg syndrome, an incurable romantic who has just joined the vice squad, and a master criminal wanted by the FBI for ripping the tags off of mattresses.

PRETTY NAKED PEOPLE
Closing out the Vintage Theatre New Play Comedy Festival, Pretty Naked People is a comedy about two aging comedy writers who are no longer able to get anyone to take them seriously. The image-centered youth culture forces them to take drastic measures, and they hire a young Hispanic woman to front for their script.
