HISTORY OF RADIO LECTURE
It may seem like everything in our lives revolves around the internet, but TV used to be the primary influencer, and prior to TV, it was radio. The invention of radio was the first technology that brought the world together in a way that simply hadn’t existed before.

In the first half of the 20th century, through two world wars, radio was the way people connected with others in a profoundly new and powerful way.

BOLD AND ECLECTIC SYMPHONY
The three pieces performed by the Colorado Symphony this weekend may be firmly rooted in Romantic and Classical traditions, but this concert is also full of modernity and innovation! Dubbed “Brooklyn’s post-millennial Mozart,” composer Missy Mazzoli has written a work that she describes as devotional music for a non-existent religion, Holy Roller.

Also on the program is early 20th-century Romantic composer, Samuel Barber, who was known for his expressive melodies and intuitive lyricism. Performing his Piano Concerto is audience-favorite Olga Kern. The program concludes with late 19th-century Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony, brimming with brilliant Romantic orchestral writing. Of the work, Saint-Saëns exclaimed, “I gave everything to it I was able to give. What I have here accomplished, I will never achieve again.”
