Turn Your Bathroom into a DIY Spa!
March 20, 2018
What do a few hours in a day spa actually do for someone?
Ease a tired mind? Relax an over-worked body? Feed a stressed-out soul? It’s the ultimate indulgence and one we rarely allow ourselves. But with a little ingenuity and tips from the pros, you can turn your kitchen and bathroom into a DIY spa!
Here’s how.
Steam and Hydrate Your Face
On your way to the master bath, stop off in the kitchen. There are few faces that haven’t felt the effects of Colorado’s cold-weather chafing and indoor heat dryness, so start your DIY spa with a bowl of boiling water and steam your face for a few minutes. You can add a few drops of essential oil in the water, like soothing lavender, or rosemary and peppermint, and cover your head with a towel. The fragrant steamy warmth opening your pores is the beginning of your at-home spa experience!
Next, treat yourself to a hydrating facial mask. Glamour Magazine recommends blending a little cold cream, yogurt, honey, aloe vera gel and avocado together and “painting” it on your face. After 15 or 20 minutes, your face should feel refreshed and moisturized! Or, follow Wellness Mama’s recipe for a DIY charcoal mask to clarify and soften your skin.
Make Your Own Bath Salts
More warmth awaits you in a hot relaxing bath, dosed with herb- or oil-infused bath salts! Tamara and Kelly who blog at Ohlardy.com have 20 different recipes combining salts and oils to make your own soothing bath blends.
And for the largest selection of essential oils near Aurora, head to Apothecary Tinctura at 2900 E. 6th Avenue in Denver — about 30 minutes from Southshore. The owners opened for business 19 years ago are passionate about the use of organic plants and sharing their insight into their medicinal and cosmetic benefits.

DIY Bath Caddy

And before it arrives, find your favorite bath pillow in the 10 Guide’s just-released report on the most popular bath pillows you can buy, waterproof, slip proof and all built for comfort.
Plush Bathrobes from Five-Star Hotels
After your relaxing bath, slipping into a plush Turkish cotton, organic fiber or micro-terry bathrobe will complete the indulgence. In a good way. Travel and Leisure points to 15 luxury bathrobes for men and women that’ll make you feel like you stepped into a five-star hotel!
Spa Day for Guys
Don’t think spas are the exclusive territory of females. Today’s hard-working guys deserve TLC, too and more of them than ever are into a proper pampering (49 percent of all spa-goers are now men, according to Gentlemen’s Quarterly!).
And if it just seems easier to book an appointment at a swanky salon, then give yourself permission to unwind and let someone else do the work. The Woodhouse Day Spa at 941 E. 17th Avenue in Denver serves up cocktails, a calming ambience, and amazing body treatments and massages. Just 40 minutes from your front door in Southshore, this full-service, award-winning spa treats both men and women to a memorable body and soul experience!
