LOVE AND BASKETBALL ON THE ROCKS
A film that stayed under the radar when it was released back in 2000, Love and Basketball is a novelty in many ways: it’s an intelligent sports film told from the perspective of a woman, as well as a love story and a coming-of-age story of a talented black girl. Writer-director Gina Prince-Bythewood said the inspiration for the film was When Harry Met Sally—but with brown faces (The Ringer).

The movie follows the lives of Monica and Q, two childhood friends who are both on paths to become professional basketball players. Over the years, they begin to fall in love, in spite of the pressures of their separate careers.
