What’s happening this weekend near the lake community of Southshore? Where do we start? Your kiddos can enjoy dinner and a movie, build their dreams, or you can all watch The Wiz, shop a vintage market or play family bingo at a local library. THE WIZ
The Wiz is a seven-time Tony Award-winning musical that reimagines the timeless Frank Baum story in “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” in the context of African American culture. Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Lion are all there, as is Auntie Em, Glinda the Good Witch and The Wiz. This weekend, bring the family and sing along to songs like Ease on Down the Road and So You Wanted to Meet the Wizard.

Kids’ night out means mom and dad get some free time to do…whatever! The YMCA will be serving some eats and showing the Disney movie Frozen, a sweet magical film with great music. (Plan on your kiddos singing renditions of Let It Go for at least a day and a half after!) Please note that the Kids’ Night Out will be at the Wheatlands Clubhouse this week while construction is completed at the Lakehouse. For ages “potty-trained” to 10-years old.

winterSNOWSHOE HIKE: PROSPECT CANYON*
Next week’s snowshoe day trip is at Prospect Canyon, with a starting elevation of 8750 feet and an elevation gain of 250 feet. This is a 3.3-mile hike and you’ll want to bring footwear with good support, sunscreen and snacks or a packed lunch. For a more detailed equipment list call the Aurora Center for Active Adults (ACAA). *All snowshoe hikers must complete a Snowshoe and Hiking Readiness Assessment and return it to the ACAA front desk at least one week prior to going on a snowshoe trip for the first time.
